Origins and foundations of SharedIntel AI

Why I started here: research training and a practical method

Every founder’s story starts with a question, and mine began in the research lab. I trained in molecular genetics, living and breathing the scientific method and dedicating my life to understanding what drives real change, both in nature and in people. Over time, that discipline became more than a research habit—it became a teaching habit.

It’s also the core of how we approach AI adoption: test → observe → refine. Not guessing. Not chasing trends. Not treating a tool like a shortcut. We focus on repeatable learning and practical implementation—so teams can build capability without relying on hype or “magic thinking.”

The original question: how does AI become usable for real people?

SharedIntel AI didn’t begin as a technology trend project. It began with skepticism, curiosity, and a specific problem: most professionals were being asked to care about AI without being shown how it connects to their reality.

Claire and I launched SharedIntel AI with an early philanthropic intent: to explore how AI could be empowering at the individual level—not as theory, but as something people could use in their own work. Over time, that aim became more operational and more specific: helping organizations build internal AI capability so their teams aren’t dependent on consultants and aren’t stuck in endless tool experimentation.

Access matters, but access alone doesn’t produce results. What matters is whether people leave with confidence, practical habits, and measurable progress.

What changed our approach: learning across contexts

In our first year, we spent significant time traveling through Asia. We weren’t looking for novelty. We were looking for perspective, on how people in different environments understand technology, adopt it, resist it, and learn it.

That experience forced us to design for reality. In some settings, foundational digital skills were still a daily barrier. It became obvious that AI adoption fails when training assumes a baseline that isn’t actually shared. In many organizations, adoption collapses when only one person becomes “the AI person,” while everyone else stays uncertain.

That shaped one of our lasting design rules: teach in a way that works organization-wide—for employees, managers, and leadership—because implementation requires shared understanding.

A recurring pattern: resistance is usually a context problem

One of the simplest examples came from home. When I tried to explain AI to my father—an intelligent, experienced professional—he didn’t reject it. It simply didn’t connect. No one had anchored the concept to a use case that mattered to him.

We saw the same pattern repeatedly with business teams. Resistance rarely comes from inability. It comes from lack of relevance. AI feels abstract until it is tied to a real pressure point.

So we learned to begin in the same place every time: with the client’s lived constraints—time, margin, customer expectations, staffing gaps, decision fatigue—then map AI to one specific friction point at a time.

The pivot: from “tools” to listening and workflow reality

That shift changed everything. We stopped thinking in terms of “products” and started thinking in terms of people, workflows, and conditions.

We asked better questions. We listened longer. We learned how culture, experience, and risk tolerance shape adoption. We paid attention to the invisible load technology can add—especially in industries that already run at capacity.

That approach required effort and humility. It also created trust. Clients don’t need to be impressed; they need solutions that match how their teams actually work.

Why print and signage became a proving ground

Some of our earliest, strongest traction came from the print and signage world—an industry with operational complexity, tight deadlines, and constant margin pressure. In that environment, small improvements compound quickly, and unclear workflows create immediate cost.

That’s why we became known for practical AI workflows that reduce friction, protect margin, and increase throughput—without requiring a technical team or major system overhauls.

Print also reinforced something we already believed: adoption must be grounded in standards. When quality matters and errors are expensive, you need clear inputs, clear validation, and consistent handoffs. AI only helps when those conditions are respected.

What we learned while building: constraints shape better systems

As we built SharedIntel AI, we encountered practical constraints of our own—working across regions with inconsistent internet, planning around travel logistics, and navigating complex administrative realities that shaped how we structured the business.

Those constraints pushed us toward a more scalable model: repeatable training assets, structured workshop series, and resource systems people can return to. Progress shouldn’t depend on perfect timing, perfect bandwidth, or ideal circumstances.

The principle that stayed constant

Through everything, one belief stayed consistent: AI is only useful when people feel it belongs to them. That means reducing intimidation, building competence step-by-step, and creating an environment where learning is normal.

We don’t just teach prompts. We teach the habits that make AI reliable in real work: validation practices, decision hygiene, and risk reduction—especially when stakes are high.
